OUR PERMANENT DENTAL CLINIC
In January 2020 we opened the doors of a permanent dental clinic on the island of Bequia, one of the dependency islands of the mainland - St. Vincent. This clinic is located in a village called Paget Farm. It is housed in the Paget Farm Community Centre where we are utilizing space donated to the Medical Relief Association by the Bequia District Council.
We operate the clinic 4 days a week and opens from 5:45 am until the last patient is seen usually around mid-day. We see around 20 patients each day. We are providing dental extractions, cleaning and filling as well as x-rays and dental education. Persons under age 18 and those 60 and older receive dental care at absolutely no charge to them. All others are asked to donate a very minimal amount of EC$5.00 for extraction, EC$15.00 for cleaning (prophylaxis) and EC $20.00 for filling to recuperate the cost of dental supplies.
The clinic is run by Doctor John Michael "Jack" Dee, a retired dentist from Michigan USA. He provides his services on a strictly volunteer basis. He is assisted in the clinic by his wife Mariana and a dental assistant from Bequia. Dr. Dee is a graduate of the University of Detroit and a Board Certified Dentist with the Michigan State Board of Dentistry. He is also registered with the Medical Board of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Dr. Dee came to St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Fall of 2015 after contacting Fidel Caesar, Director of the Medical Relief Association, expressing his desire to render voluntary dental services with our organization. He had learnt about us through our website. When he arrived in St. Vincent, we made arrangements for him to volunteer his services at the Bequia Hospital Dental Clinic. It was from there that he and the Medical Relief Association saw the great need for a dental clinic in Paget Farm.
Today, through the efforts of Dr. Dee and Mariana and the Medical Relief Association who have acquired equipment and donated many hours of organizational effort, the project is a reality. Donations of dental supplies will be needed on a continuing basis so that this clinic can operate successfully. Please contact us to find out what our needs are.
